Miss Mary E.
Durham, an Englishwomen, travelled across the Serb lands and gave the impressions in her book "Through the Lands of the Serb".
She visited Montenegro, Serbia and Old Serbia. The chapters directly related to Montenegro are
available for reading online. The MAP is also available.
Mary and Montenegrins, drank to the Montenegrin ruler, Nikola I Petrovic Njegos and all his family, and to the
speedy restoration of the ruler of Great Serbia to his rightful throne at Prizren. For
her, Montenegrins are honest souls who have lived all their lives among the mountains, who
burn with a patriotism that only death can destroy, men the guiding star of whose
existence is the Great Serbian Idea, who would lay down their lives cheerfully any day to help its realisation.
Miss Durham dedicated the book to her mother.
The book was published in London, in 1904, by Edward Arnold and printed in Edinburgh by Morrison and Gibb Limited. |
